Solsemcave
wpe33.jpg (64576 bytes)     A photo of the well-known "Solsemhula" with its 21 ochre mysterious wall paintings. Much interesting research has been done since the caves' discovery by locals in 1912. The painting descript thirteen human figures and a large cruciform figure, and some figures as yet not clearly understood forms. The painting were found at the darkest end of the cave, reflecting perhaps, the fear of the ancients that exposure to the sun would rob their sacred images of their power. The floor in the cave is a mixture of wet and dry soils, in which have been found the remains of human, horses, goats, cows, sheep, fish and birds. The cave has rendered up stone and bone tools and a bone drinking horn . Besides a beautiful sculpture of the extinct bird gate auk.
