Areas in the range of 90 to 100 meters above sea
level (show in light grey ) marked with black dots indicate places of
human habitation from the early Stone Age. At the altitude between Haug and
Solsem might have been settlement and there has been found remains of charcoal
and flint that shows production of tools etc. This particular places lies in a
narrow pass between "Store Leka" and "Lille Leka" was
the home of caveman who found not only good harbour, but protection from the
elements in almost all directions. At the same level on the south side of the
island smaller human settlements may have been used seasonally for hunting
camps. Leka contains 396 sites of human settlement and is often called "The
Saga Island" and may yet render more historical and cultural finds to
future generations of researchers
